The parish of Vale is situated to the north east of the island of Guernsey. It consists of two separate territories. Vale Castle sits on the eastern coast of Guernsey looking out at what used to be the separate island of Clos du Valle. La Braye du Valle, the channel separating the island was drained and reclaimed in 1806 by the British Government as a defence measure. There is evidence to suggest that the castle, which was built somewhere between 1370 and 1400, was built on the site of an Iron Age hill fort that had been there since about 500-600 BC.
