Glencoe is a village in the western Highlands of Scotland surrounded by mountains and the scenic steep valley of Glen Coe situated 14 miles south of Fort William and Ben Nevis; the highest mountain in the UK. Glencoe is an ancient area steeped in Scottish history famous for the Massacre of Glencoe of February 1692, where the MacDonald Clan were murdered in their beds at hands of their guests the Campbells in a planned political operation to suppress troublesome residents. Attractions include The Glencoe and North Lorn Folk Museum housed in traditional thatch-roofed cottages in the village and the Glencoe Visitor Centre by the main road.
