Y Felinheli lies resting gently against the shores of the Menai Straits in North Wales lying between Bangor and Caernarfon with easy access to the A55 Expressway. Located on the Menai Straits Y Felinheli takes its name from the tidal power that used to work the mills as opposed to those that used rivers and streams. The port here was originally built and used for the shipping out of the slate that was mined at Dinorwic which was then transported to the port by narrow gauge railway for export. The Dinorwic quarry was responsible for the building of the port including a tidal lock and dry dock which today has been redeveloped as a marina.
