Woolacombe is a pretty coastal village in Northern Devon dating back to the Stone Age. Once a quiet fishing hamlet before the elegant Regency buildings sprang up to accommodate fashionable visitors who took to sea bathing, today sees surfers with colourful boards mastering the rising swells, and enjoying the pleasant bohemian air with interesting shops and Surf Schools. Blessed with a three mile golden, sugar soft sandy beach, that's home to an International Sandcastle competition, the gentle sweeping curve of the bay is back dropped by sand dunes, and at the southern end the breathtaking headland of Baggy Point points out to sea, whilst at the northern end the dramatic headland carpeted in wild heather is Morte Point, Surfers feel at home in Woolacombe with challenging waves, tubes, and space to ride their boards, landlubbers take to the coastal walks along the South West Coastal Path which generously rewards with views that film directors only dream of, smaller visitors can climb aboard the miniature train, or choose one of the nine holes on offer at the Pitch n Put just behind the sand dunes.
