Winsford is an attractive village set within the borders of Exmoor National Park. The River Exe forms much of the boundary of the village, which is also situated on the Exmooor to Tiverton road. Locally there are stone quarries and an abundance of iron-ore, the mining of which once accounted for much of the prosperity of Winsford. Winsford Hill is the location of a number of Bronze Age burial sites, known as the Wambarrows. There is also a standing stone known as The Cartacus, believed to have been erected by early Pagan villagers.
