This Whitchurch is the one that is found in Hampshire, located in the upper valley of the River Test, one of the finest trout rivers in England and is home to author Richard Adams who wrote “Watership Downâ€. But Whitchurch also boasts an interesting history, the church, All Hallows, dates back some 1200 years but excavations in the area indicate that the area has traces of Roman and Anglo Saxon settlements. The countryside surrounding this picturesque town was traditional sheep country and as a consequence weaving was a local industry, today two of the original mills are private homes but their names provide clues to their history one of which is Fulling Mill where the finishing of high quality woollens used to be undertaken.
