With it's long sandy beaches, fossil filled cliffs, national park moorland, ancient monuments, beautiful hills and valleys, and all steeped in history, everywhere, Whitby makes an ideal family holiday destination.
There's something for everyone. Good surfing, and bathing in the sea at Whitby, Sandsend and Staithes. Some nice sandstone outcrops offer reasonable rock climbing. A disused railway and nearby national forest offer excellent locations for cycling, mountain biking, and orienteering. Excellent fishing is available in the sea and rivers.
