The small Wiltshire market town is well known for the enormous white horse carved into the nearby Westbury Hill. It is thought that the famous chalk horse only dates back the the late sixteen hundreds. To keep maintenance costs to a minimum the Westbury White Horse is now 'preserved' by a concrete skin and a border made of stones cemented into place. The town centres on its historic Market Place and the 14 century All Saints' Church. The church has the third heaviest ring of bells in the world, as well as an Erasmus Bible and an unusual sixteenth century clock that has no face and was constructed by a local blacksmith.
