Wanstead is an attractive suburb of north-east London with a village centre and plenty of green spaces and woodlands. Located at the Essex border, Wanstead enjoys two extensive open areas that really belong to the neighbouring Epping Forest. One of these, Wanstead Park, was landscaped more than 200 years ago to form the grounds of Wanstead House, an exceptional Palladian mansion, since demolished. The Grade II-listed park, complete with lakes, is managed quite formally, but visitors can still find some wonderfully wild trails through the woods.
