Walton-on-the-Naze is a small town in Essex, on the Tendring Peninsula, about 85 miles north east of London. It is a quaint seaside resort, with The Naze being the main tourist attraction. There is also a Walton pier and The Naze itself is about 1.5 miles north of the pier. The Naze is a Site of Special Scientific Interest due to its fossil cliffs, and a public footpath stretches along the cliff tops. The John Weston Nature Reserve on the Naze is a Special Protection Area and the area of water behind the Naze, called Hamford Water and Walton Backwaters, is recognised as being an internationally important wetland for birds.
