Situated in the East Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, Tattershall is on the A513 road from Sleaford to Horncastle. It lies just to the east of where the road crosses the River Witham. Tattershall is probably best known for Tattershall Castle, built in 1434 by Ralph, Lord Cromwell, Treasurer to Henry VI. Tattershall Castle was built on the site of a 13th century stone castle, some of the remains of which can still be seen today. The castle keep is a distinctive red brick structure but it fell into neglect after the death of Ralph Cromwell.
