Stoke by Nayland is in the county of Suffolk, close to the border with Essex, in what is referred to as Constable Country. It contains a church, St Mary, with a 120 foot perpendicular red brick tower which remains much as it was in the fifteenth century and as it appeared in several of Constable’s paintings. The village contains many cottages painted in various shades of Suffolk pink, the traditional Suffolk colour that houses would have been painted in. There are also several timber framed buildings including The Village Hall and the old Guildhall.
