The village of Stoke Bruerne lies on the Grand Union Canal about four miles east of Towcester in Northamptonshire. There has been a settlement at Stoke Bruerne since ancient times and it is mentioned in the Domesday Book. It is a charming and typical English village containing many stone and thatched cottages. In Nicholson's Ordnance Survey Guide to the Waterways, it is described as 'the best example of a canal village in this country'. Some of the features that make this such a special example include Blisworth Tunnel, the second longest navigable tunnel in Britain.
