Stenhousemuir is a small historic town in the Falkirk district of Scotland situated to the north of Falkirk lying between the villages of Larbet and Carron, north of the River Carron. The towns name literally means ‘stone house on the hill’ and was originally named after a Roman building on the Carron River Valley. From 1785 Stenhousemuir was well-known by cattle-drovers taking their herds to the annual farmers market Trysts. Stenhousemuir is famous for its football team, Stenhousemuir FC, currently playing in the Scottish League Division 3 and as the home of McCowan’s Toffee Factory famous for its traditional toffee and irn-bru bars.
