The parish of St Mary lies in the North west of the Island of Jersey. It borders four other parishes, St Lawrence, St Ouen, St Peter and St John. The parish is likely to have got its name from a mediaeval monastery, which was thought to have been destroyed by Viking raiders between the 8th and 10th centuries. One of the attractions in the parish is the 'Devil's Hole', a natural blowhole in the cliffs of the St Mary's coast. The Devil's Hole was once accessible to tourists but has been closed off for several decades now due to safety reasons.
