Many people think that Skelmersdale in the county of Lancashire in the North West of England is a relatively New Town. In fact Skelmersdale is mentioned in the Domesday Book as 100 aces of farmland and for most of its history it was a farming community. We then fast forward through to just after the Second World War and Liverpool decided that it was overcrowded and suffering with poor housing and it was decided to create a new town - Skelmersdale was selected as one of these. New housing was erected as were shops, schools and libraries in order to provide the best of everything new for the incoming population.
