The Parish of Sheering consists of 2 villages, Lower Sheering is very near Sawbridgeworth and Sheering is about a mile away, between Harlow and Hatfield Heath. One of the oldest oak trees in the country is said to be in Lower Sheering and is thought to be about 1000 years old. Both villages are part of Epping Forest. Sheering has a population of 2838, village hall, primary school, a pre-school, 2 pubs and a church. St Mary’s church is quite exceptional in having a 40ft long roof beam, a beautiful stained glass window from the 14th century and being a Norman building.
