Nestled in the valley of the Chiltern Hills is Saunderton - a small village a few miles north west of High Wycombe and near Princes Risborough. The village name is believed to be of Anglo Saxo origin, it was recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086 and in the 18th century a workhouse was established there due to its ideal remote and rural location. Confusingly, Saunderton railway station opened in 1901 but was 2.5 miles from the orginal village! This National Rail station is on the A4010 and another community (also called Saunderton) has emerged.
