Tracing its history back to Roman Times the village of Rowlands Castle in Hampshire has led a relatively quiet life, the Romans had settled here and the area was known for its brick and tile manufacture. The town of Rowlands Castle grew as a result of the London to Portsmouth railway line in the 19th century, this enabled people to commute and today Portsmouth is around half an hour away by train. Today it is a relatively quiet residential village with a few local shops and a couple of local pubs one of which is allegedly managed by a former Van Morrison guitarist and is close to the village green.
