Rothesay is the historic main town on the Isle of Bute located in the Firth of Clyde situated between the Isle of Arran and the Scottish mainland on the Cowal district of Argyll and Bute. Rothsay is the oldest dukedom of Scotland created in 1398, awarded royal burgh status from 1401. This beautiful town has been a sea-side holiday resort since the 19th century with its car-ferry operating from Wemyss Bay on the Clyde coast. On the pier is the Rothesay Victorian Toilets; the oldest surviving public convenience in Scotland.
