The inland settlement of Rookley may look like the sleepy village that time forgot - the old schoolhouse has been converted into a private dwelling, and Rookley Brickyard, the island's last remaining brickworks, closed in 1974 - but visitors flock to the area for two reasons. One is the 20-acre Rookley Country Park, a caravan and chalet centre set in glorious surroundings with coarse fishing lakes, a putting green, swimming pools, bars, restaurants and activities and entertainment for all the family.
