Portballintrae is a harbour village located on the spectacular North Antrim Coast, looking out over the Atlantic Ocean between the Giant's Causeway and Dunluce Castle. A former fishing settlement, Portballintrae grew up around a horseshoe-shaped bay at the mouth of the River Bush, still plentifully supplied with trout and salmon. Upstream, a mile or so away, is Bushmills, the village's more famous inland neighbour. Many of the old, whitewashed cottages that once lined the bay at Portballintrae have been restored to their traditional charm, although the village has expanded in recent times, and many of the dwellings, old and new, have been snapped up as second homes.
