Port of Menteith is a tranquil village in the heart of the Trossachs near Aberfoyle, Stirlingshire, Scotland. One hour from both Glasgow and Edinburgh, Port of Menteith’s rural location overlooks the beautiful Lake of Menteith with panoramic views of the surrounding Menteith hills, including Ben Lomond. Port of Menteith is situated around the Lake, part of The Lomond and Trossachs National Park. The lake contains small islands including Inchtalla with ruined castle once the home of the Earls of Menteith, and Inchmahome site of the substantial ruins of the Augustinian priory that served as refuge to Mary Queen of Scott’s in 1547, the island is heavily wooded with some rare species of trees.
