Nestling against the side of the New Forest is the village of Plaitford which today is in the County of Hampshire, this has not always been the case though as for a time it was in Wiltshire(until around 1895). An area which is rich in history tracing its roots back to Stone Age times, although the forest was never used for occupation around the periphery is evidence of Stone Age man and with Roman archaeology still found today in the area. Today the New Forest is some 67,000 acres, managed by the Forestry Commission and is a huge attraction for visitors throughout the year.
