Petham is a small village and civil parish in the North Downs, five miles south of Canterbury in Kent. The village church is All Saints Church, which was built in the 13th century but suffered from a fire in 1922 and had to be rebuilt. There is one pub, The Chequers Inn, on Stone Street. There is a Grade One listed wooden smock mill and a museum at nearby Stelling Minnis, which is open between Easter and September. The villages of Chartham, Chilham and Godmersham are close by. Godmersham Park House was built in 1732, and eventually became the property of Edward Knight, brother of Jane Austen.
