Ottery St Mary is an elegant town set in the rolling countryside of rural East Devon. It nestles in the valley of the river Otter from which it takes its name. The St Mary stems from the jewel in the town’s crown, the church of St Mary standing on a hill above the town. The church was designed by the Bishop of Exeter in the early 14th Century as a miniature replica of Exeter cathedral. Ottery St Mary is one of the oldest towns in Devon and locals celebrate their proud history each year on Pixie Day, the Saturday closest to the longest day.
