Mentioned within the Domesday Book of 1086 the hamlet of Nuneaton can trace its history back that far when a Benedictine nunnery was founded here in the 12th century, traces of the nunnery remaining visible today. It was the 13th century that was to see Nuneaton grow as it is located within the high producing coalfields of Warwickshire. In keeping with many English towns though it was the Industrial Revolution that saw Nuneaton grow at a phenomenal rate, it was during this period to become a thriving location for the growing textile industry.
