Also known as Moreton, Moretonhampstead is a small hilltop settlement on the North-Eastern fringes of the Dartmoor National Park. It was first settled and defined from the moors by the Saxons who occupied the area towards the end of the 7th Century. They named it â€œMoor-Tunâ€, Meaning â€œThe settlement in the moorâ€. Moretonhampstead is surrounded by rolling green hills thick with mature woodland, ideal for rambles and exploring. Placed at the geographical centre of the county, it is perfect for not only exploring the moors, but the rest of Devon.
