In ancient times, Moorgate was one of the gateways leading through the London Wall. Although the gate was demolished centuries ago, Moorgate today refers to a street and to the area surrounding it (once known as Moorfields). A financial district in the City of London, Moorgate is filled with investment and banking institutions, and architecture ranging from the very old to the brand spanking new. Moorhouse, a spectacular office development, opened in 2005, and more tall buildings are planned. Contrastingly, the magnificent Guildhall dates back to the early 1400s.
