The market town of Malton is only just in North Yorkshire; its conjoined twin-town of Norton across the other side of the Derwent is in the East Riding. There has been a settlement in Malton since at least Roman times, and there are the remains of a Roman fort in the town plus exhibits at the museum to remind visitors of this aspect of Maltonâ€™s history. With around 4,000 residents Malton has the amenities expected of a small town, its shopping facilities benefiting too from the influx of tourists.
