Magherafelt is a small town located in the southern tip of Co Londonderry, not too far from where the River Bann flows into the north-west corner of Lough Neagh. The proximity of the great, freshwater lake - the largest in Ireland and the UK - is a major attraction, especially for those who enjoy waterside scenery, fishing and boating. Anglers also fish for salmon and trout in the Moyola river and for pike in Lough Beg, a bird-watcher's paradise. Magherafelt is situated at the foot of the spectacular Sperrin Mountains, therefore serving as an ideal base for walkers, cyclists and drivers, with the surrounding countryside incorporating hills, valleys, forests, historic archaeological sites and breath-taking, winding roads.
