Longtown is an interesting Cumbrian town on the banks of the River Esk, close to the border of Scotland, home to three thousand people. The town has wide streets and an elegance from times long gone. Gretna Green is close by, as is Solway Moss, the location of a bloody battle fought in 1542. The impressive arched bridge spans the river where a gentle stroll will uncover some of Mother Nature's finest, or perhaps Oakbank will be first choice, blessed with fabulous lakes is a favourite haunt of fishermen and visitors to the Bird Sanctuary.
