Llanwrtyd Wells is to be found in mid Wales it is split by the river Irfon, and tucked in the valley between the Cambrian Mountains and the Mynydd Epynt an area that is a designated Special Area of Conservation. Originally its fame grew from the mineral waters at Dol-Y-Coed Park which had curative powers. Indeed the Vicar of St David’s is accredited with this find back in around 1732, he tried the waters himself and it helped cure his scurvy! Based on his experience he wrote about Llanwrtyd Wells and the therapeutic powers of the waters and this saw visitors to the town increase dramatically.
