Its keep overlooks the barbican house and museum and a short walk leads to the handsome townhouse of Anne of Cleves, a gift to Henry VIIIâ€™s fourth wife as part of her divorce settlement. Many fine houses, timber framed and 'mathematically tiled' buildings line the streets allowing residents and visitors a glimpse into the true essence and variety of bygone Lewes.
