Landford is at the edge of the New Forest and was once surrounded by woodlands that were part of the Royal Forest estate. Although a prehistoric pathway crosses the parish of Landford at its south-west corner there is no firm evidence of a settlement here before the Iron Age. The Domesday Book of 1086 indicates a village had begun to flourish with around 20 or 30 people living in a scattered settlement. Today Landford finds itself just off the busy A36, near the Wiltshire border with Hampshire, in an area of mixed farmland and woodland.
