Lampeter (Llanbedr Pont Steffan), in Ceredigion - population approx 2000 - is the smallest university town in Wales and the United Kingdom.. Lampeter University is famous for its Celtic studies including Welsh language and Cultural Studies and, whilst rural, does not feel remote - from the south it’s the M4 to Carmarthen, then the A485 to Lampeter, from the north head for Aberystwyth then take the A487 to Lampeter via Aberaeron - down a particularly pretty run of coastline. It was from Lampeter, in 1968, that the paramilitary, nationalist organisation the Free Wales Army first marched.
