Kirriemuir is situated 5 miles north-west of Forfar in the valley of Strathmore, Angus, known as the Gateway to the Glens; Kirriemuir is an ancient settlement dating back to medieval times. The older buildings are made from local red sandstone; Kirriemuir is also referred to as the ‘Wee Red Toun.’ Kirriemuir is famous as the birthplace of James Matthew Barrie (1860-1937) author of Peter Pan, his home at 9 Brechin Road has been turned into the Barrie Museum by the National Trust for Scotland.
