Kinross is a burgh situated on the west shore of Loch Leven, Perth and Kinross, Scotland The town is a popular tourist resort offering many attractions and facilities. Kinross is an ancient town with many historically interesting features including the ruins of a Pictish Fort dating c490AD and the 14th century Loch Leven Castle both standing on the small Castle Island in Loch Leven. Loch Leven Castle has a rectangular, roofless but well-preserved tower-house with courtyard; it is well-known for being the prison of Mary Queen of Scott’s from 1567-8.
