Kingussie is a small historic town in the Badnoch and Strathspey area in the Central Highlands of Scotland, situated 3 miles from Newtonmore. Kingussie was granted burgh of Barony in 1464. The old fortified ruins of the18th century Ruthven Barracks sit opposite town on the banks of the Spey, maintained by Historic Scotland and open to the public, the Barracks were last occupied in 1745 by Jacobites heading to their defeat at nearby Culloden. Kingussie was a planned town by the Duke of Gordon in 1799, the town stands at the head of the ancient Caledonian pine forest.
