Inverkip is an ancient coastal village in Inverclyde, Scotland situated at the mouth of the River kip where it flows into the Firth of Clyde opposite Dunoon and the Cowal Peninsula with Greenock five miles north-east. The monks of Paisley Abbey built a church here in 1188 and the village was made Burgh of Barony before the Act of Union of 1707. Inverkip was well-known as an alleged centre for witchcraft during the 1600’s, with Alexander Dunrod believed to be a practising warlock who died under mysterious circumstances.
