Ilminster is a rural town set in the English county of Somerset. The town lies a little to the east of the intersection of the A303 London to Exeter road and the A359 Taunton to Axminster road, having been bypassed a few years ago. The town gets its name from the River Isle and its large church dedicated to St Mary but also know as The Minster. Ilminster is mentioned in documents dating from 725 and in a Charter granted by King Ethelred in 995. The church is made from Hamstone, a colloquial name for stone quarried from Ham Hill in Somerset.
