Howwood is a small Renfrewshire town, sitting close to the border with Ayrshire, and has both Paisley and Johnstone close at hand. To the south-west of Glasgow, Howwood is just one of the many small towns which have grown as commuter towns of both Glasgow and Paisley. Howwood sits on the Ayshire Coast rail line; it was plugged into the arterial rail link in 1840, only to see it close after just two weeks of service, reflecting the problems in trying to finance a working and inclusive rail service in the 19th Century.
