The north-London suburb of Hornsey was largely established at the beginning of the 1900s, but two landmarks recall much earlier times. In the High Street, St Mary's Tower and graveyard survive from Hornsey's ancient parish church. The tower, dating back to 1500, has recently been re-opened for worship. The Old Schoolhouse, a delightful small building in Tottenham Lane, was constructed in 1848 and now houses the Hornsey Historical Society. Another important venue is the Grade II-listed former Hornsey Town Hall.
