High Littleton and its hamlet Hallatrow are situated in the North East of the English county of Somerset. It is within easy reach of Bath, Wells and Bristol, the furthest of these being only 12 miles away. Evidence suggests that settlements existed in the area as far back as the late 7th century, when the Saxons called it 'Lytel tun'. Hallatrow may in fact be considerably older. In the Domesday Book of 1086 it is recorded as Liteltone, meaning small enclosure. For millions of years, coal has lain under this part of North Somerset.
