Herne Bay is showing a bright new face to visitors after a series of improvements to the sea front. Located on the north coast of Kent between Whitstable and Margate, its promenade now features colourful gardens, a refurbished bandstand and café bar, a Victorian water fountain, a long pier, the Neptune's Arm sea-defence jetty, and an eighty-feet, free-standing clock tower, thought to be the world's first. Off-shore sights include a wind farm and sea forts remaining from the Second World War, while at the clifftop, the 12th Century Reculver Towers - surviving from an ancient church - look out over the town.
