Havant, a suburb of Portsmouth, is the town and district within Hampshire in the southeastern part of the county. Home to over 45,000, the borough’s population is over 117,000 and includes Waterlooville, called after the troops returning from the Battle of Waterloo in 1815. The town, severely depleted in 1760 by a fire, (only a pair of 16th and 17th century cottages forming the Old House at Home pub and parts of St Faith’s church dating back to the 13th century remain), is modern in architecture and accommodates the overspill of homes and factories of light engineering from nearby Portsmouth.
