Pronunciation first: it used to be spelled Harwood, and it is posher (and probably correct) to pronounce it thus, but most people say Hare-wood. The choice is yours. Harewood sits on the A61 between the vibrant city of Leeds, booming commercially and culturally, and the genteel spa of Harrogate with its strange contrast of little tea shoppes and smart stores side-by-side with the giant conference centre. The village provides a good base for visiting (or doing business in) both places, but of course has a spectacular attraction of its own in Harewood House.
