Gretna Green is a small village in Dumfries and Galloway in Scotland situated at the head of the Solway Firth adjacent to the village of Gretna and one mile north-west from the Border with England. Gretna Green is famous for being the ‘marriage capital of the UK’, where under Scottish Law couples are able to marry at age16 without parental consent. Gretna Green is a popular tourist destination, with 4000 marriages taking place each year at the Blacksmith’s Shop, in the village and at the registry office in neighbouring Gretna.
