Great Rissington lies 3 miles (5 km) south-east of Bourton-on-the-Water, on the east bank of the River Windrush. The road from Bourton to Great Barrington runs through the the village but the original village centre was close to the church and the former Manor house. The church - St.John the Baptist - is of cruciform design with a central tower rising from 13th century arches at the crossing and has a Cotswold stone roof; it was largely re-built in 1873. The village largely conforms its 17th century layout but few buildings from that period remain, there are several 18th & 19th century buildings some of which are disguised behind 20th century restoration and enlargement.
