Great Missenden is a large village at the head of the River Misbourne valley in the Chiltern Hills, Buckinghamshire. This is an exceptionally charming village, especially worth a visit in the festive season when it is illuminated with white lights lining the narrow but lengthy High Street of half timbered and Georgian shops, looked over by the 14th century parish church of St Peter and St Paul. The village was on a coaching route, so had many inns and was a prosperous place but after the railway revolution and the arrival of the London Underground Metropolitan Line in 1892, there was little passing trade.
